The museum has more than 70,000 pieces in its collections from Africa and Oceania. The permanent collections are displayed across two floors. The ground floor has Prehistory, Protohistory, the Roman Period, the Middle Ages, and the Modern Period. The museum library has documents related to Bordeaux and its region. The Antiquity Room has significant insights into Romanisation, including communication routes that illustrate the city's wealth. Musée d'Aquitaine offers free entry for schools and those aged under 18.

2025 Update: A team of mediators supports teachers and students from kindergarten to higher education in discovering Bordeaux through visits, thematic workshops, and artistic and cultural education (EAC) programs. An elevator is available in front of the changing rooms that allows persons with reduced mobility to access the library. Credit card, cash and cheque are accepted for payments.

The museum welcomes artists and visitors curious to discover new forms and ideas. Capc Musée d'art contemporain de Bordeaux has 1,600 pieces signed by more than 200 artists worldwide. Visitors can enjoy the programme of temporary exhibitions, performances, and cultural and educational events throughout the year. You can also browse the gift shop and take a break in the café and restaurant.

2025 Update: CAPC musée d'art contemporain de Bordeaux is renovated by the architects Denis Valode and Jean Pistre, in collaboration with the designer Andrée Putman. Museum entry closes 30 minutes before closing time. Visitors are asked to proceed to the exit 15 minutes before the building closes.
